I predict that Estella will leave Miss Havisham. After fighting with her, Estella realizes that she is sick of Miss Havisham trying to control her; someone with Estella's vulgarity cannot handle being controlled. I predict that Pip will eventually turn in the convict to the authorities. Though Pip is helping the convict right now, that is just his initial reaction; Pip is extremely scared of the convict, especially after seeing his pistol. Essentially, Pip is helping the convict out of fear, not out of true goodness. When Pip gets more used to the convict and becomes less scared of him, he will do the right thing and turn him in. Even though this man is Pip's benefactor, Pip is smart enough to know the difference between right and wrong.

Blog #3
Estella has realized that her relationship with Miss Havisham has taken a turn for the worse. Miss Havisham basically tried to brainwash Estella into hurting men (emotionally). As a result, Estella was very bitter with her and treated her very meanly. When someone comes into Pip's apartment during the thunderstorm, and Pip realizes that this person is the convict that scared him when he was younger, he realizes that he's caught between two possible decisions: turning in this person to the authorities or aiding him. After Pip finds out that this convict is his benefactor, he thinks that the best decision would be to help him.

Blog #2, Topic #2
The name estella, having a Latin origin, means "star." Estella's name accurately reflects her personality, due to her arrogance and beauty. In our modern society, many celebrities (also known as "stars") are very stuck up and can be quite rude to other people, exactly like Estella. In the text, Estella degrades Pip's card-playing strategies and abilities; for example, she scoffed at the fact that Pip refers to knaves as jacks, thinking it to be too "commoner." Clearly, Estella thinks lowly of Pip because she believes that he is not as sophisticated as she is. In addition to her arrogance, Estella is also very pretty. When Ms. Havisham asks Pip what he thinks of Estella, one of the characteristics as which he describes Estella is pretty. Just as Pip admires Estella's beauty, many people appreciate the beauty of stars (both actual stars in the sky and movie stars).

Blog Assignment #1
Mrs. Joe is a very controlling and aggressive character who loses her patience very easily. In the quote, she gets so angry that she becomes violent. Specifically, she is banging Joe's head against the wall. Mrs. Joe seems to be a very bitter person and never says anything positive. Her unhappiness and aggressiveness has a strong but negative impact on other characters, such as Pip and Joe. In the quote, Pip is sitting in the corner and watching what is happening to Joe in fright. Pip is very scared of his sister but must live with her short temper. She controls Pip very much and gets aggressive with him when he doesn't do exactly what she wants. Mrs. Joe also controls Joe and, as shown in the quote, gets violent with him. In fact, Mrs. Joe controls him so much that he has a better relationship with Pip than he does with her. Without doubt, Mrs. Joe's hostile behavior drives other characters away from her.
